My training career actually started with people not dogs. Certified in health and fitness, I designed and instructed private workouts for busy men & women.
A chronic back injury required surgery, and I was forced to bow out for a year.
During that year of recovery I brought home a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy, I named Cody.
(He was instantly mama's boy). I took him to a local puppy class and I was hooked! I loved everything about the training process and it came quite naturally to me. Within a few weeks I knew I had stumbled upon my new passion, soon to be my new career.
I enjoyed teaching group classes for years, while I continued my practical training and education...
And then came Emmy!Emmy, my aussie/ border collie came to me much too young (6-7 wks) with no pedigree or promises, and wow, was she a wild one!
Long story short...Emmy brought fear, reactive & aggression issues that I can now say have only enlightened & enhanced my knowledge, making me a better trainer. (Believe me I was not thanking her the first year though.)
Had I used force based training and the misunderstood dominance propaganda to "fix" Emmy, I'm certain we wouldn't have the relationship we have today.
After going through the "battles" and frustrations with Em, and coming out on the other end with a great dog and buddy, I decided I wanted to embark on a more customized type of dog training.
I knew Emmy's issues would never have been addressed in a group class environment. Heck, she was perfect there! As were many of my students dogs. Often, behavior modification for specific issues simply need to be addressed at the "scene of the crime".
Hence, Manners Unleashed was born!
My commitment to continued education has been steady and unwavering, along with my committment to professional service.
I've enjoyed the journey here, and look forward to working with you and your dogs in the future
